This Illinois Forest Action Plan reviews current conditions and trends of forest resources, threats to forest lands and resources, priority areas within Illinois and the Midwest, and a strategy for improving the conditions of our forests. An Urban Forestry Addendum addresses challenges particular to urban areas within Illinois.

About the Illinois Forestry Development Council
The Illinois Forestry Development Council, through its charge to study and evaluate the forest resources and forest industry of Illinois, determines the magnitude, nature, extent, and ownership of Illinois’s forest resources. The Illinois Forestry Development Council was created in 1983 upon passage of the Illinois Forestry Development Act. The Council’s charge is to identify and evaluate the social, economic, scientific, and educational value of Illinois’s forest lands and forest products industries.
